Spring Birthday Parties

There’s something about birthdays in the spring that make them so much different than birthdays in other seasons. Spring time is exciting for everyone. It means nicer weather, the end of school, and of course, that summer is coming soon! The spring atmosphere is fresh, happy and bright. We focus a lot on nature and the outdoors! Spring birthdays are the most fun because everybody is feeling happy and looking forward to the summer, and everyone is ready to get out again and have some fun after the long winter!

Spring birthday parties, although a lot of work, are very fun to host and plan. The tricky part of spring parties are whether they will be taking place outdoors or indoors. Spring weather can be really iffy—it goes back and forth between rain and sun. And, sometimes it will rain for 10 minutes at a time and then it’ll stop! The weather makes things tricky. And, the location of a party is always the most important part!

Having hosted many parties during spring time, I’ve become pretty good at it. What I suggest is that you have all the food indoors. Even if it’s not raining, the bugs, wind and animals make it difficult to keep food outside. Have it in a room that’s close to your backyard, and that way people can choose to eat in or outside. Have drinks inside as well. People can always take them outside. Have a table set up outside for people to sit at. If it starts to rain, all you have to do is take the cushions and table cloths inside, instead of all the food and drinks as well! And, if you’re using balloons, banners or signs, it’s totally fine to keep them inside. If people go out, they’ll be happy enough just to enjoy the nature and the nice weather and they won’t feel like something is missing.

There are also certain foods and drinks that are perfect to serve for spring parties. It’s always a good idea to serve lots of fresh food. Salads and fruit trays always go over well. Also, people will always appreciate a fresh-made jug of iced tea or lemonade! And for the adults, fruity martinis are the way to go! Simple foods like sandwiches and veggies with dip always go over well. And don’t think I’ve forgotten about desserts. For the cake, it’s always fun to decorate it with bright springy colours, and to keep it spring/nature-themed. Cupcakes with little flowers are always the first to go, and cake with bright icing is always a hit!
